Meet the Directors

Dave Marsh, Co-Director (Bob Bradley)

Dave is excited to get back to work at the Evergreen Playhouse. Well, actually he did act in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with TOAD and A Year With Frog and Toad for TYT so we guess he’s been acting. So, he is happy to be back directing for the first time in nearly two years. Well, we guess he did direct a number of small One From The Shelf productions that were streamed online during the COVID shutdown. We guess that means Dave is happy to be continuing doing theater wherever he gets a chance. He is also happy that he is able to drag his wife along on his theater adventures!

Heather Marsh, Co-Director (Mrs. Clark)

Twenty seven years ago Heather acted in her first play at Evergreen Playhouse. She played Cop #2 in The Gazebo and acted with her then-boyfriend, Dave Marsh. A year later she directed her first show performed by a few veteran actors that still perform on this stage. Since then, Heather has been busy “stage managing” her life with four kids and getting a B.A. and teaching degree at St. Martins. Heather has appeared in several One from the Shelf productions and is eager to do more acting and directing in the future.

A Note From the Directors:

When Heather and I first started thinking about this show, we talked about what the story meant to us. We had both read the book when we were in elementary school (Heather more than once) and we took away very similar thoughts.

First, we all have our Holiday traditions that we hold dear. Those little things that, if we don’t honor them, could ruin our holiday. The Herdman family come into the Pageant and turn it on its head but ultimately it’s still ok. In fact in some ways it’s the best one ever. The last two years have been like that. Traditions that we hold dear have been uprooted and we’ve had to come up with new ways of celebrating. That’s our new normal and while it’s been different, it’s still been good.

Then, there is the idea that people are often looked down on when they are a bit different. The Herdmans are definitely the definition of different. They were poor, uneducated, unsupervised, and rough around the edges. But, despite how much their family’s values flew in the face of the social norms of the 1970’s, they ended up teaching the “normals” that maybe being different isn’t so bad. Fifty years later and we are still trying to learn that.

So, from Heather and I (Herdman's in our hearts) we hope you enjoy our little bit of different in your Holiday season.

Special Thanks

He has previously worked in the booth for a handful of One From the Shelf shows and is eager to once again have the opportunity to learn from his mentor and personal hero Dave.

Song Lyrics

Oh Little Town of Bethlehem

Oh little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by

Yet in thy dark streets shineth, the everlasting light

The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

Away In a Manger

Away in a manger

No crib for a bed

The little Lord Jesus

Laid down his sweet head

The stars in the sky

Looked down where he lay

The little Lord Jesus

Asleep on the hay

O Come, All Ye Faithful

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant

O come ye, o come ye to Bethlehem

O come and behold Him, born the King of Angels

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him

Christ the Lord

Angels We Have Heard on High

Angels we have heard on high

Sweetly singing o’er the plains

And the mountains in reply

Echoing their joyous strains

Glo-----ria In Excelsis Deo

Glo-----ria In Excelsis Deo

We Three Kings

We three kings of Orient are

Bearing gifts we traverse afar

Field and fountain, moor and mountain

Following yonder star

Oh, star of wonder, star of night

Star with royal beauty bright

Westward leading, still proceeding

Guide us to thy perfect light

Silent Night

Silent night, holy night!

All is calm, all is bright.

Round yon Virgin,

Mother and Child.

Holy infant so tender and mild,

Sleep in heavenly peace,

Sleep in heavenly peace

Note From the Board

Welcome back to the Evergreen Playhouse. My goodness, how we’ve missed you. It has been over a year and half since we have been together and we are so grateful to bring theatre back to the Evergreen Playhouse stage.

We took this gift of time to renovate and rejuvenate our beautiful theatre and we took time to raise money to help offset the loss of income during those difficult 20 months. As you sit here in the theatre, you will notice the new paint, the new carpet, the new seats but most of all you will notice how good it feels to be here celebrating the stories of our 62nd season.

Live theatre is important, it is immediate, and it is necessary. Our stories this year will feature actors putting themselves out there for you to love or hate, they will bare their souls to you, share the vulnerability of these characters, and they will bring laughter, joy and a little bit of intrigue to you as well.

When you, the audience, reacts, applauds, gasps, or is held in silence, that is what live theatre is - that moment where the people onstage connect with the people in the seats and there is no better feeling when that connection is made. Thank you all for joining us in person again - it is so good to be back.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the show -

Kris Garrett, Board President

To contact the board, please email us. Board meetings are open to the public and are every second Sunday of the month at 6:30pm.
